About the Role
The Backend Engineer, Ledger role sits within a team responsible for both authentication and ledger systems.
The team owns Stratus, an EVM-compatible centralized ledger released as open source, and is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and correctness of critical financial data.
As part of this role, you’ll work on infrastructure that stores and manages production financial state, making accuracy and scalability essential.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Maintain Ledger Systems
- Build and maintain Stratus, an EVM-compatible centralized ledger.
- Improve system reliability and performance.
- Ensure correctness of financial transactions and ledger state.
- Support the evolution of open-source financial infrastructure.
Build Data Indexing Infrastructure
- Develop indexers that ingest ledger data.
- Expose ledger state to internal and external systems.
- Optimize data processing and retrieval.
- Improve scalability of data pipelines.
Support Product Teams
- Collaborate with engineering teams integrating with the ledger.
- Provide technical guidance and support.
- Improve developer experience and system usability.
- Assist with architecture and integration decisions.
Operate Critical Financial Infrastructure
- Monitor production systems.
- Maintain high availability and performance.
- Troubleshoot complex distributed system issues.
- Ensure operational excellence across the platform.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates should have:
Backend Engineering Expertise
- Strong software engineering experience.
- Experience developing backend services and APIs.
- Knowledge of high-performance systems design.
- Ability to work with mission-critical applications.
Rust Programming
- Professional experience building applications in Rust.
- Understanding of memory-safe and performant system design.
- Experience building scalable backend services.
Distributed Systems
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems.

- Experience with data-intensive applications.
Cloud Infrastructure
