Mercor is seeking participants across East and West Africa to help evaluate a new AI-powered voice assistant. This flexible, remote opportunity allows individuals to earn money by making real phone calls, asking genuine questions, and providing feedback on their experience.
The project is designed to help improve the quality and effectiveness of next-generation AI voice technologies while ensuring they are useful for people with different backgrounds, experiences, and needs.
About the Opportunity
Selected participants will make a series of phone calls to a voice assistant over approximately one week. During these conversations, participants will ask real-life questions and provide feedback through short surveys.
The project is fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
What You’ll Do
Participants will:
- Make five phone calls to an AI voice assistant.
- Ask genuine questions related to everyday life.
- Complete a short feedback survey after each call.
- Help researchers evaluate the usefulness and quality of AI-generated responses.
Possible discussion topics include:
- Health and wellbeing
- Farming, work, and business
- Education and learning
- Money transfers and public services
- Practical “how-to” questions
- Any other genuine question of personal interest
Each call typically lasts between 5 and 15 minutes and concludes naturally without a strict time limit.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Reside in Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ghana, or Nigeria.
- Be comfortable communicating in English.
- Consent to call recording and transcript generation for research purposes.
- Be willing to participate over a two-week period.
Preferred Participants
The project aims to include a diverse group of participants, including:
- Feature phone users
- Smartphone users with limited internet access
- Individuals with little or no experience using AI assistants
- Participants from both urban and rural areas
- A balanced representation of genders and age groups
These preferences help ensure the research reflects a broad range of real-world experiences.
