About the Role
The Navigation Traffic team develops and maintains the web services behind Mapbox’s navigation products used across consumer, automotive, and logistics industries.
As a Software Development Engineer II, you will help build reliable and scalable backend systems that process traffic data, support navigation services, and improve customer experiences across global markets.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain scalable backend services
- Design and deploy cloud-native microservices
- Collaborate with engineers to define and deliver technical solutions
- Monitor, test, and improve system reliability and performance
- Support continuous delivery and operational excellence initiatives
- Reduce technical debt and improve engineering efficiency
- Participate in on-call rotations to maintain service health
- Share knowledge through documentation and collaboration
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates should have:
- 5+ years of experience building scalable backend systems
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Experience with TypeScript for backend development
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including:
- ECS
- Lambda
- Step Functions
- S3
- AWS CDK
- Experience using GitHub and version control systems
- Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience writing unit tests and maintaining production-quality code
